What is Yoga exactly?

Yoga is a union of mind and body.  Many people think that yoga is stretching. But while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. There are many different styles of yoga being taught and practiced today. Although all of the styles are based on the same physical postures (called poses), each has a particular emphasis.

Do I have to Ommm?

You don’t have to Ommm. It’s often the first and last sound in your ears in a yoga class. But what does it mean? Perhaps you’ve heard it defined as “the sound of the universe” but what does that really mean? Ommm is a mantra, or a sound or vibration that is repeated over and over.

I suffer from back and neck problems,  can I still do yoga?

Yes you can, yoga is very good for strengthening and toning the muscles, releasing tension and helping you melt stress away. We would always recommend that you talk with your GP, Osteopath or Physiotherapist to discuss whether they consider Yoga is right for you.

What types of yoga do you do at Renu?

We currently run Fitness Yoga and Yoga Stretch here at Renu.  Both classes are wonderful for creating balance through the body, toning and strengthening. Fitness Yoga is a little faster paced. Yoga Stretch and  is based on Hatha Yoga and focuses on the breath. A more spiritual approach.

I have terrible flexibility and I’m really worried I won’t be able to do any of the moves

Yoga is a personal journey, and as with anything, you will improve over time. There is no competition with yoga, all ego is left outside the door. It is time for you to stretch, release and relax, to focus on you and be in the now. Yoga actually improves flexibility, so even more of a reason for you to come along.

What benefits will I get?

Improved flexibility, builds muscle strength, protects your spine, perfects your posture, improve your bone health, increases blood flow, drains your lymph and boosts immunity, increases your heart rate and drops your blood pressure and can lower stress levels.

Can anyone do Yoga?
